Jan 11 Men and the spa – a match made in heaven

   Hair removal       No Comments

Sure, we are biased, but we honestly believe that everyone can benefit from a day at a medical spa. We referenced the hair removal issue some time ago – and we still feel that it is relevant. It’s the new year, and it’s the perfect time for a new you. Men especially can benefit from the spa. They may choose to focus their approach, such as going for hair removal treatments. They can get electrolysis, laser hair removal, or even waxing.

Nov 5 Electrolysis – where do people get it done?

   Hair removal       No Comments

We get a lot of clients who come in looking for electrolysis.  A lot of the time, people are just sick of the shaving hair/ hair growing back cycle.

Our clients often ask us: where are the most popular areas that people get electrolysis done? Essentially, it depends on your gender. Women mainly get it done on their face, so think the chin, upper lip, sides of their face, and jawline. They also get it done in other areas, like their chest or abdomen, underarms and so on.

Men, on the other hand, usually get their backs done. Eyebrows are another one, the back and front of their neckline, and so on.

Men, women, young or old, everyone can benefit from this service.

You know those cartoons that show people pulling their hair out due to crazy amount of frustration? Yeah, turns out that whole scenario could be linked to heart attacks.

Via CBC, we hear that chronic stress is playing a role in heart attacks.

Cortisol, a hormone secreted in higher levels during times of stress, is traditionally measured in blood, urine or saliva. But those measurements reflect stress only at a certain period of time, not over long stretches.

Hair, however, captures cortisol levels over a longer period, said study author Dr. Gideon Koren, who holds the Ivey chair in molecular toxicology at the University of Western Ontario in London.

Since hair grows one centimetre per month on average, a six-centimetre-long hair sample can show cortisol levels over six months, he said.

We get a lot of clients to our medical spa, looking for our hair removal services. Young or old, looking good will always be a priority. Psychologically, it may help explain why men are so vain about their hair – or age-dependant, the lack thereof.

So what if we told you that scientists have identified a gene involved in hair growth? It’s true! ScienceDaily tells us this juicy bit of info:

The researchers found that the gene, called APCDD1, which causes a progressive form of hair loss beginning in childhood (known as hereditary hypotrichosis simplex). The disease is caused by a phenomenon called hair follicle miniaturization — the same key feature of male pattern baldness.
